The renovation works at the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel involves several spaces. The inauguration of all the new spaces is scheduled for the summer of 2025. First to be completed is ‘The Council,’ a smoking room with two fireplaces, one on each side.

The furniture and all other elements were executed in detail and expressly for this 40-square-meter room. There are 570 ceramic tiles, oakwood panels, and bronze plates. The tiles were designed by Jacques Herzog and handcrafted by the H&dM team, in close collaboration with the ceramicist Esther Lattner and Kunstbetrieb, a manufacturer of the Swiss city of Münchenstein. Large windows bring in natural light and the lounge features red velvet sofas, bespoke tables and stools of walnut wood, and Red Riding Hood lamps designed by H&dM and produced by Artemide.
