The result of a collaboration between United Investment Merryda Hotel Management Group and Wiki World, Merryda Wiki World – Secret Camp brings together more than a dozen houses designed as experimental shelters in direct dialogue with nature. The complex is integrated into a forest that is home to numerous migratory birds, in the Dongxihu district of the Chinese city of Wuhan.
Red cabin, with an area of about 55 square meters, is part of this complex. The shape and color of the house are thought up in reference to a migratory bird: a compact volume, raised off the ground, fully clad in an intense crimson tone.
The project was drawn up with deep respect for the environment. All the trees on the site were left as they were, and the cabin was positioned in line with the original vegetation. The structure is completely elevated, leaving the ground intact. The entire building is constructed with glued laminated timber, with digitally designed and custom-fabricated components and joints, enabling a fully prefabricated assembly process.
The exterior cladding uses carbonized wood board, produced through traditional firing techniques, reinforcing the relationship between architecture and nature. The interior spaces are compact, in keeping with the project’s exploration of reduced dimensions. Every space has a window, establishing a visual continuity with the surroundings.
The red cabin thus explores new possibilities for small-scale living in natural environments, prioritizing minimal intervention and prefabrication in wood.
