
“Where fantasy could reign supreme, creating furniture and decor of the most modern tendencies.” This is how José Yarnoz, visiting the 1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes, described the Art Déco pavilions that were causing a sensation, and in this spirit the architect from Navarre three years later designed one of the most ambitious works built in our country in the new style: the extension of the Bank of Spain’s main edifice. In line with the centenary of the Paris fair, the financial entity highlights the balance between functionality and institutional representation that every detail of that project tried to strike, from the imposing Maumejean stained-glass window to the famous Gold Chamber.
