At ninety years of age, Norman Foster still steers his firm at the speed of a cruise liner, without letting its corporate structure blur the signature stamp that makes any of his works unmistakable, however disparate their locations, scales, or programs. Now joining this big family of forms and spaces are a skyscraper in Manhattan for JPMorgan Chase and the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi: two icons which materialize the British architect’s grand ambitions.

For its part, this issue’s dossier looks at the work of ten young Portuguese practices that verify a change of attitude in the country’s solid tradition, as the members of fala explain in the introductory text. The studios featured are REDO architects, MESA atelier, Corpo Atelier, Summary, EXPERIMENTAL, Atelier Local, depA architects, Nuno Melo Sousa, ATELIERDACOSTA, and Cabinet.

The Art and Culture section presents the talks that Sergio Sebastián, Ángela García de Paredes (of Paredes Pedrosa), and Josep Ferrando gave at the encounter held annually to assess the state of the profession, an event organized with Fundación Arquia by the magazine, coinciding with the release of the latest AV Yearbook. The usual News and Books pages are complemented with Luis Fernández-Galiano’s review of Jim Jarmusch’s and Joachim Trier’s latest films, where domestic architectures are the setting of emotional plots.
