Ethics in Contemporary Practice

The term 'style' has become outdated for contemporary practice, because it implies an approach that is already obsolete. But this doesn’t mean that internal coherence is unnecessary: every architectural practice must be consistent, because it forms part of a broader field of cultural production. We are, and architecture is, entangled in pragmatic matters, which means that there is a lot that we do not control in our work. And although architects are, to some extent, problem-solvers, we cannot forget that we are also cultural producers. For me, what matters is conceptual coherence in the practice’s topics, processes, and values: a steady sensibility toward the way we relate to the world.
