The State of Qatar has announced that Frida Escobeda has been selected to build the new headquarters of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha. The scheme drawn up by Frida Escobedo Studio, in collaboration with the engineers of Buro Happold and the landscape designers of Studio Zewde, stood out in an initial pool of forty teams, and then again among seven finalists.

The project combines a new construction with adaptive reuse of the General Post Office of 1985, with its stepped repetition of curved elements on the roof. The historic building’s ground floor will harbor an exhibition space.

The new ministerial seat, a 70,000-square-meter complex, will be located at a strategic point along the Doha Bay promenade, and organized in stacked volumes with landscaped terraces, while the spaces inside are arranged around planted courtyards.
