Yidan Center in Shenzhen

Zaha Hadid Architects

The construction of the Yidan Center in Shenzhen has reached its maximum height. This new home of the Chen Yidan Foundation, encompassing 166,815 square meters, combines spaces for academic research, cultural activities, and exhibitions. It stands out for its open structure, with terraces and balconies overlooking a large central void, which recalls striated geological formations.

The project was thought up with high criteria for sustainability, aspiring for LED Gold certification and the maximum, three-star standard of China’s National Green Building Program. Exterior protections filter solar radiation and give views of Qianhai Bay, while the facade, to improve thermal efficiency, presents double-layer glass in combination with hybrid ventilation. Finally, the system that controls the volume of variable air optimizes comfort and energy consumption. The design incorporates photovoltaic panels and a rainwater-collection system.
